What a great Monday

My hall is so wonderful. I just don't know how else to put it. They are so lively and exciting, they keep me on my toes. It's amazing because they all have such unique personalities from timid in big groups to absolutely crazy, but I love them all. I'm so excited to watch them grow throughout the year, but dreaded the day when it finally kicks in that "college is hard". :)
We had our first hall dinner tonight which was very successful. We almost got lost in the swarm of Singing Churchmen coming into the ARA, barely making it through the line. I'm sure they were very nice men, but there were a lot of them and that's intimidating. Though a benefit of them coming was that they had carrot cake out, which is rare indeed! Some of the roommates on the hall fought like married couples, which was thoroughly entertaining and kept us laughing the whole meal. These girls have known each other less than a month and I can tell there are already some great friendships growing. I pray they continue to develop and that the stress of the year to come with not be too overwhelming for them.  It really helps that a lot of them share classes, so they help each other out with homework and studying.
Our football games were pushed back (yea!) and are now happening tomorrow. The team I play on is called "Once Upon A Touchdown" and our game is at 5:30pm but unfortunately I'm working so I won't be there. My girls' team "The Mighty Manatees", play at 7pm so I'm going to run over there after I get off the desk. I really hope they aren't too confused, the first game is the hardest. We ran some good drills in the RAWC practicing runs, catching and throwing. It was a lot of fun. Even though this wasn't my team practice, I played just as much as the girls to show that football really was doable. Some are still very apprehensive about the whole thing, but I really think they going to get into it with some practice.
When we got back to WMU, I hopped into the shower. To my surprise, when I returned to my room I found a little party going down in my sink. One of my girls still loves playing with her Barbies and brought them to college with her. Once I discovered my new "roommates", the girls of course had to invite some of the other girls on the hall to see as well. Before I knew it, I had 5 girls sitting on my floor dressing up Barbie dolls, one Ken doll, and one G. I. Joe action figure. It was hilarious. And I have to say, I wouldn't be me if I didn't whip out my camera to document this event. They thought it was so fun, we are having a Barbie flashback party this Saturday! Everyone is bringing their old Barbies from home and we are going to watch one of those animated Barbie movies.
There will probably be cookies and popcorn involved as well. I've never seen an animated Barbie movie so this will be very interesting, but I'm open. I mean I love anything Disney, how different can Barbie be? OK, it could be really different, but I'm staying positive here. These kind of things characterize Freshmen year. Hopefully this type of silly, random happenings on the hall are what they will remember from their first year at OBU and the hw, stress and scheduling of it all will be forgotten.

Pranking Janna!!!

evacuate the dancefloor, I'm infected by the sound...

So much has happened! I found out last week that I did not get the anchor position, but I got something even better. I am now the News30 Floor Manager, which I'm super excited about!! Though all of my new responsibilities are not clear until my training meeting on Thursday, my basic role is to be the middle man between the Video Suite and the broadcasting floor, cueing the anchors and making sure everything is running smoothly. I really think I'm going to like this a lot better and it will give me a much broader understanding of the different roles, which was my original goal.

Reason #42875245 why I love being a EMPD major is happening next Monday. I have the opportunity to be a Production Assistant for a guy coming to shoot footage on campus. I'm working from 9am to 6pm, so I'll have to miss a few classes but it's going to be such a great experience!! AND on top of that, I'm getting paid $100 to do it. Can I get a BOO YA?!

There has been a lot of activity this weekend here at the desk, where I currently type. Some freshmen, who are not on my hall hung out with me at the desk last night for at least 2 hours which was great! I love getting to know other freshmen who I don't see on a regular basis. While we were all gathered around my computer watching youtube videos, the elevator opened exposing an elliptical machine from the basement exercise room. After dieing of laughter and shock I sat down on the bike and pushed the down button; I was going to find out who had done this. I could hear the group at the desk run downstairs to see what I was going to do. I proceeded to interrogate the boys in the lobby to find out who the perpetrator was. The truth was set free and this picture was taken as we all watched Austin remove the machine by himself, and return it to the exercise room. Needless to say I'm keeping a very close watch on these new Freshmen boys, they're a lively bunch.

And now I come to today, were my parents gave me some very exciting news. Last night we discussed the financial likelihood of me being able to go to Kim's wedding in Maryland in a couple of weeks. Last night the answer was no I wouldn't be able to go, but when I woke up this morning, things had changed! They told me they were going to be able to help me with a portion of the airfare, enabling me to go!!! Jackie, Laura, and I are going to make a trip out of it, flying out on a Wednesday, taking a train from Maryland to Washington D.C. and touring around on Thursday, before the wedding on Saturday. I'm really looking forward to it and feel so blessed that it worked out.

Well that's the update on my life! Who knows what will happen next, but I'm ready for this adventure!

i can blog, tweet, and update my facebook status from my phone at the same time. and i just did.
News 30 baby.

you can put makeup on her, but she'll still pee her pants

Poor WMU is taking a beating due to all this weather. The basement is flooding and girls are having to rearrange their rooms, lining the floors with multiple water catching trashcans. O happy day. Besides being cold, which I way prefer over hot, me and my floor are save and sound. Snuggled like a happy sandwich between the basement which floods and the 4th floor which can sometime leak, we've got it good here on the 2nd floor. Though I feel bad for the girls who are affected by it, I in no way want to trade places.

My girls' first flag football practice is tomorrow, the real test to see what hidden raw talent lies beneath my budding freshmen. Right now they are all nervous, unsure what to think, but tomorrow everything will change. They are supposed to have their first game on Saturday. I'm going to be honest, I hope their game is cancelled due to the weather. Not that I don't have any faith in them, but 1.) they are only going to have had one chance to practice 2.) they don't know what to expect yet on the field 3.) they are playing Cruise Club. I type this as my "Hogg Mama" Cruise Club shirt dangles from a Wonder Hanger in my closet. Though I've never played on Cruise Club, I have some great friends on that team that I love to support. Conflicting loyalty stinks, but I will be backing my girls up 100%.

As my second full week of being an Electronic Media Production major passes over hump day and on toward the weekend, I find myself completely enthralled with what I'm learning. This field excites me and I can't wait to diligently work at perfecting my craft. Yesterday was our first News 30 meeting and I actually auditioned for the Community Anchor position. On my way to the meeting, I was confident that I wanted to remain being the scenes, but as I sat their listening to Jonathan describe the positions, this one jumped out at me. I have some great ideas to try to build publicity for News 30, and this anchor role seems like it would put me in the best position to launch my creative plans. I really won't be devastated if I don't get it, I'm fully content on simply being apart of this experience.

Maybe there's a shark in the water

Since this is my blog and I get to make up the rules, I've decided that when I can't think of a good title for a post, I will use the title of the current song I am listening to. Sooo my title is brought to you by V. V. Brown.

Back to business....

I have a confession. In the past, I have been HORRIBLE at reading my Bible daily. I would just get busy, and not make it a priority. But here comes the worst part, I didn't feel guilty about it. There would be days that I wouldn't even think about cracking open that Holy book. Isn't that disgusting?! Well something switched inside my brain at the end of the summer which made me realize how stupid I was being. I felt that it was an obligation, something that as a Christian I needed to do. Well I was half way correct. I definitely needed to be diligent, but what I didn't realize was how wonderful it actually was! Diving into the precious words that Jesus purposefully left us has opened my eyes to such love and clarity, but with that, trials. I believe that if you aren't doing anything productive for Christ, than Satan isn't going to worry about you. Why should he? You are no threat to him. But...and its a big but, when that light bulb finally clicked in my head, Satan took notice. I will not remain idle anymore, and reading faithfully to learn what Christ has for my life is making Satan nervous. You know why? Because I'm asking to be used for the glory of Big Man in Heaven's name, not my own and that. is. powerful. When we ask for that, and truly seek Him, He's going to do great things through us and I'm ready for a wide ride.

So from now on, when my ridiculous alarm clock goes off at 7:00am every morning, Satan is going to say "O crap, she's up."
